This is a peaceful afternoon in late March. The light of this early Spring day blurrs the sharp edges and adds to the wild aspect of the countryside, far more impressive on this right bank. (See South bank of the canyon, Sainte-Croix and Moustiers Sainte-Marie).
From Le Galetas [1] [2] [3] [4] the D952 road leads to the Belvedere (viewpoint) de Mayreste [5], then the Col d'Ayen at 1032 m. In La Palud gather lovers of rock climbing, hiking, canyoning and all fresh water sports (never without a guide, caution !), mountain bike, paragliding etc...
From there [6], an extraordinary narrow one-way road (D25) follows as close as can be the edge of the canyon : see the river deep downwards and breathtaking sights from the Corniche Sublime on the other bank [7], le Collet Barris (1459 m. high), the cliffs of l' Escales [8] [9], the entrance to the Sentier Martel (walking down and along the river). In the far, le Point Sublime [10] [11] [12] [13] overlooked by the village of Rougon, and the deep furrows of the wild rivers Artuby and Verdon canyons [14] [15] [16].
Farther off [17], the wild plateau de Canjuers, the village of Trigance, Castellane, a wonderful city protected by a spectacular limestone cliff (184 m.) and Comps sur Artuby, a former fortified village.
